Every year, over a thousand people are killed and many thousands more are seriously injured on Australian roads. National Road Safety Week is an annual initiative from the Safer Australian Roads and Highways (SARAH) Group that looks to highlight the impact of road trauma and ways to reduce it. Their daily themes during the week, illustrated through animations, include taking a pledge, slowing down and shining your lights. They encourage people to get involved and show their support for safer roads by displaying a yellow ribbon or sticker on your car, motorbike, truck or bicycle.
Road Safety Week is an ideal time to run road safety lessons and assemblies or launch a campaign for safer local streets.
