Anti-Bullying Week 2021: United against Bullying

Nov. 8, 2021

Anti-Bullying Week is coordinated In England and Wales by the Anti-Bullying Alliance and takes place from 15 to 19 November 2021 and it has the theme One Kind Word. The week will start with Odd Socks Day supported by CBBC and Andy Day and his band Andy and the Odd Socks.

‘Kindness is more important today than it has ever been. The isolation of the last year has underlined how little acts of consideration can break down barriers and brighten the lives of the people around us’ Anti-bullying alliance.

The video below explains the theme of One Kind Word:

Anti-bullying Alliance resources

The anti-bullying alliance has a range of resources to support schools during the week. These include a pack for both Primary and Secondary schools. There are also working in conjunction with BBC Teach to produce a live lesson for Primary Schools at 11 am on Monday 15th November.

The theme of the week presents a perfect opportunity to reinforce the messages of checking in with each other, that one kind word can change someone’s day. Also, the notion that kindness can fuel kindness, like a large invisible chain that we can pass on over the week. Children could be encouraged to take part in RAK – Random Acts of Kindness throughout out the week in school and in the wider community to make a difference.  The Anti Bullying alliance has also got a great pack for parents and carers  that includes tips about what to do if parents are worried about bullying and  the tools to help parents talk to their children about bullying.

Purple Mash resources

Purple Mash offers a whole curriculum area with a range of activities just for Personal, Social and Health Education which includes a special section just for Anti-Bullying Week. These include activities including writing rules for the school to prevent bullying, a beat bullying poster, being honest, letter writing, including others and feelings diagrams, which are perfect for using in KS1. There are also a range of ‘Agony Aunt’ style letter writing templates giving children the opportunity to offer advice.

With the importance of Anti-Bullying week, we have made two of our programmes free for this week on Purple Mash. You can write an anti-bullying webpage with your school explaining ways that bullying can be prevented and why it is wrong. We also have included our beat bullying poster that schools can use during the week. Or why not use our poem template to write a poem exploring the choice of choosing to be kind or decorate some kindness cookies and write a kindness gift tag.

Bullying UK resources

Bullying UK have a range of resources that can be used in school during the week including a presentation, advice texts, activites and a range of posters that you can download for free to display in and around school. Pupils could  also use 2Paint or 2Paint a Picture to design their own posters around the theme of One Kind Word.

Mentally Healthy Schools have also produced a range of toolkits for both Primary and Secondary schools, in these toolkits, they have created a range of anti-bullying resources including:

  • lesson plans
