Anti-Bullying Week 2019

Nov. 8, 2019

Here at 2Simple, we’re supporting this year’s Anti-Bullying Week! The theme for this year is Change Starts With Us. Whether it’s a big or a small change, we can all do our part to stop bullying.

The week presents a perfect opportunity to reinforce the messages around what children should do within school if they are being bullied, how to deal with bullies, the role of the bystander and the importance of tackling bullying, both as an individual and as a group because of the long-term effects that bullying has.

According to the Anti-Bullying Alliance, bullying can be defined as: “the repetitive, intentional hurting of one person or group by another person or group, where the relationship involves an imbalance of power. It can happen face to face or online.”

Bullying comes in many different forms: physical, verbal, emotional, sexual, online/cyber and indirect bullying. All these different forms affect each child differently. Bullying can have a huge impact on a child’s life and there is a significant link between children who have been bullied and mental health disorders.

We at 2Simple believe that every child should feel loved and accepted and should love and accept those around them. That is why Purple Mash offers a whole curriculum area with a range of activities just for Personal, Social and Health Education which includes a special section just for Anti-Bullying Week. These include activities including being honest, letter writing, including others and feelings diagrams, which are perfect for using in KS1 alongside activities related specifically to cyberbullying.

With the importance of Anti-Bullying week, we have made two of our programmes free for this week only from Purple Mash. You can write an anti-bullying webpage with your school explaining ways that bullying can be prevented and why it is wrong. We also have a letter-writing template to Mrs Jones about friendship, looking at how new children can be helped when settling into a new school.
