Are you a Year 6 teacher with a class full of gamers?
This year, when there is no Purple Mash Games Design competition, we are excited to signpost gamers in your classroom to BAFTA’s Young Game Design competition. BAFTA’s annual competition aims to inspire and support those who are passionate about games.
Creating a space for imaginations to thrive, it’s a chance for pupils to design, develop and present new game ideas with the potential to be the winning Young Game Designer.
The competition is split into two categories, game concept and game making and entries can be made individually or in small groups.
Game Concept brings game design back to its roots, using as little as pen and paper, pupils can design and display their ideas through art and written communication.
Entries must be an original game with one playable level, check out YGD’s terms and conditions for details of suitable formats for submission.
The YGD webpage has resources including a 7-week lesson plan with worksheets as well as a poster encouraging sign ups. If pupils are stuck for inspiration, there is also a game idea generator as well as our own YouTube video series for top tips.
If you would like your students involved, head to the YGD webpage to start creating profiles and get submitting.
Any other questions? Send the YGD team an email at ygd@bafta.org and they will be happy to help get your students games into the competition, and we look forward to seeing the entries.
