As well as hosting Bett, the UK's biggest education trade-show, the Excel Arena is a historic site for women's sport. It was here that in 2012 team GB's Nicola Adams became the first woman to be awarded an Olympic gold medal for boxing.
We are very excited to announce that in January 2020 it will be the site for another first in women's sports, the first all-female #EduFootyAid match! We have teamed up with the Bett organisers to bring a number of games to the show this year, and our first women's game is going to be the headline event.
Just like the first ever match in 2018, the first women's game is being pitched as North vs South. And whilst we expect a fierce rivalry on the pitch, #EduFootyAid is about much more than football. Our matches raise money to support the mental health charity Mind, but most importantly our goal (pun intended) is to build communities and promote teacher wellbeing.
We hope this event is going to generate several thousand pounds to support Mind in their mission to ensure every person experiencing a mental health problem receives the support and respect they deserve. And there will be a social event after the match where all our players can enjoy a well earned drink and give a Gabby Logan style dissection of the game!
