Get festive with these Text Toolkit games

Dec. 1, 2016

Brrr! It's getting cold outside, which can only mean one thing: the festive season is here!

We thought that this was the perfect excuse to create some themed grammar activities, so we've used Text Toolkit to design five simple festive games. Click on the links below to take a closer look.

If you're new to Text Toolkit, take our whistle-stop tour

Winter Word Combos

Children race to find as many combinations of word types as possible before the time is up. The more they find, the higher their score. You can use as many word types as you like and add as many words as you like to each.

Reindeer Word Spot

Dragging words into the correct word type boxes is the aim of this hypnotic game. Add any word type you need and keep children on their toes with tough time limits.

Santa Sentence Pairs

Here it is: a truly gripping grammar game. Children compete to identify tenses faster than their friends. But it doesn't stop there. Once they've finished, the countdown continues as they scramble to rewrite the sentences in alternative tenses.

Jingle Bells Cloze

Here's another corker of a conundrum. Children choose parts to add to a sentence in the correct place. The time just keeps ticking until they get it right, so they' better hurry. You can add trick words to create more challenging puzzles too. Perfect for those early finishers.

Festive Developing Tray

Have you ever wondered what Hangman would be like if it was brought up on a diet of superfoods and protein shakes? No? Well, we have and we think we have the answer. Developing Tray adds a totally new dimension to the classic game. Children use context clues to win points by guessing strings of letters correctly, but they'd better be careful. Guess wrongly and they could lose valuable points. Can they use their skills to sucessfully complete the text with the most points?
