As many of you know, Safer Internet Day happens at the start of every February and this year it will be held on 5th Feb. 2Simple, in partnership with Childnet International and Safer Internet Centre, want to get as many children as possible trained in online safety, in one day!

We are hard at work creating lesson plans, quizzes and other resources to fit with this year's theme of 'Together for a Safer Internet'.

What is Safer Internet Day?

Safer Internet Day is a global event which aims to raise awareness of internet safety amongst children, their parents and everyone else! Last year, Safer Internet Centre reached 3 million people and this year we want to help them increase that number.

2019's event is held on 5th February.

What will happen on the day?

After you sign up below, we will email you all the details needed to run the lesson. If you're a Purple Mash subscriber, you will also be able to access the resources via the feature panel from 21st January.

You will receive a short online safety lesson to complete with your children, whichever year group you teach. Once completed, children will be ready to take a short quiz to check their knowledge. This will then allow us to track how many children complete the quiz.

We're hoping to reach over 100,000 in a day! When we know the number we will email everyone who took part thanking them and send you a certificate to give to your children or show in your school.

How do I sign up?

If you'd like to ensure your children are empowered with the knowledge they need to make safe choices, complete the form to register your school to take part in the lesson and quiz on the 5th of February and we'll email you more information nearer the time.

What if I'm a parent?

To ensure the online safety teaching and learning doesn't stop at the end of the school day, we will also be releasing a very exciting piece of free content for parents. If your child's school don't take part, you can still sign up to do the quiz and lesson with your child from home.

What if my school doesn't subscribe to Purple Mash?

We don't want any school to miss out, which is why we are making these lessons and quizzes within Purple Mash completely free for safer internet day and the week before so you can effectively plan out your day. We will also provide assembly ideas and guidance on how to host a parents' information evening on online safety.

How many lessons are there?

There is one main lesson to be done on Safer Internet Day. There are also a series of activities that can be done in the week leading up to the day itself.

What year groups are the resources suitable for?

All the resources are suitable for children from age five to age eleven. Unfortunately the resources are not designed to meet the needs of Reception-aged children (ages four to five).
