March 1, 2023
Each month we will be highlighting a #MashoftheMonth, this will focus on a tool or application within Purple Mash and how it can be used within the classroom to support learning across the curriculum. During the month, if you share how you have used #MashoftheMonth, you will then be entered into a draw to win a 2Simple Goody Bag!
The Mash of the Month for March is 2Code, 2Code is a tool to introduce computer programming (coding) to children. It has three key components: free code, guided lessons and debug challenges, hopefully you have seen that 2Code has had an update.
The whole app has been given a fresh, clean interface, making the command buttons more consistent and in-line with those in our other tools in Purple Mash. This means that both teachers and children can build familiarity across our range. Our fantastic Education Team have been hard at work updating all of the documentation in the Computing Scheme of Work, but don't worry - all the lessons will remain the same (but they will include the new look)!
You can find out all about the changes to 2Code in our update blog here.
Over this month you may be teaching one of our coding units from the scheme of work but it is also a great opportunity for your Digital Leaders to explore and become familiar with the updates. There are different levels for activities as well as a range of games and quizzes for your Digital Leaders to enhance their 2Code experience.
There are a wealth of support materials within 2Code: video tutorials, a glossary, and Coding resources containing guided lessons and solutions; perfect to explore coding with your students during March.
It would also be a great time to use Mash Club resources with your Digital Leaders during March and introduce them to 2Code. The resources within Mash Club make use of Free Code, in free code, children can create any kind of program they like. There is a free code tool for each of the levels of 2Code. Children will be able to develop a racing game, try to escape the dragon and make an adventure game.
