This year, Her Majesty the Queen will become the first British monarch to celebrate a platinum jubilee after 70 years’ service, having acceded to the throne on the 6th of February 1952 when she was just 25 years old.
There are a wide range of resources in Purple Mash that you can use with your pupils over the course of this half term to celebrate the jubilee and mark this historic occasion. We have set up two display boards and will be sharing work from our Purple Mash schools with the palace.
We are inviting you all to share your fabulous platinum jubilee creations on one of our display boards. There are two display boards - Ages 5 to 7 and Ages 7 to 11.

The Display Boards are two ways that schools can get involved with our Purple Mash platinum jubilee celebrations, but the creativity doesn’t stop there. We have a range of templates and ideas that schools can use over the course of this half term.
Use our Queen’s Jubilee News to write a newspaper report about the jubilee, or children can use our postcard to write about the celebrations.
Your school may be planning an event to mark the occasion and children can use our template to write about all the events that are happening both locally and nationally. They could use our Big Lunch Menu to plan a celebration that is fit for a Queen. Children can even have a go at our platinum jubilee quiz and then have a go at making their own.
There's also a Queen Elizabeth biography activity to write about our monarch's incredible life. They can use our Queen Elizabeth coronation slideshow to find out more, or use our Mashcams to put themselves in the Queen’s shiny shoes, share memories of the last 70 years and tell others what they are looking forward to over the weekend celebrations.
The Queen is also monarch and head of the commonwealth realms, so children could research the countries where she is monarch and then write about how the jubilee is being celebrated in different countries of the world.
Taking place on Sunday 5th June, the Platinum Pageant will feature a ‘River of Hope’ section made up of 200 flags appearing like a moving river as it proceeds down The Mall. Primary and secondary school children are invited to create a picture of their hopes and aspirations for the planet over the next 70 years. A selection will then be transferred onto silk flags and carried by secondary school pupils. Pupils can use this template in Purple Mash to write about their flag ideas and include images of their flags.
There are also a range of paint projects that children can use from designing their own bunting, to decorating a cake or even a palace. You can find all the activities here.
