The Big Draw Festival is a worldwide celebration of drawing, organised by The Big Draw charity, this event is now in its 20th year. The promotion of the universal language of drawing as a tool for learning, expression and invention are at the heart of the festival. Starting in October, the theme this year is ‘The Big Green Draw – A Climate of Change’.

Holocaust Memorial Day on 27th January is a day to remember the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, alongside the millions of other people killed under Nazi Persecution and in subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Dafur.

This year Diwali falls on Saturday, 27th October and we want to celebrate with a Festival of Light competition that will run until Thursday, 31st October. We are celebrating light and colour and invite your class to be creative and get involved. What does Diwali mean to you? Create a scene using 2Paint a picture or 2Paint or why not use 2Create a story to share your own recount or story. For the younger pupils, you can design your own Mendhi.

The Design and Technology Programme of Study is very rich indeed. That’s because, approached imaginatively, it can take in so many other aspects of the curriculum. According to the Programme of Study:
“pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. They acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and draw on disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art.”
