Knowledge Organisers with Purple Mash

May 12, 2020

Whats the difference between the Internet and the World Wide Web? As teachers, we know the answer, but a Year 6 pupil might struggle with remembering when they are learning about networks as part of their Networks Unit. This is where Purple Mash can help.

We have rolled out our Knowledge Organisers on Purple Mash to use alongside our very own Computing Scheme of Work.

Florence Nightingale

May 11, 2020

We are celebrating the work of the NHS and the dedication and hard work of all. One of the first pioneers of Nursing was Florence Nightingale who was born on the 12th May 1820, on the 200th anniversary of her birth, the work Florence Nightingale did resonates with us now more than ever. Florences ideas and actions changed nursing forever. In honour and in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, the new hospital built in London was named the Nightingale Hospital. Florence made people realise that nursing is an important job and that hospitals needed to be clean to save lives.  These ideas still save peoples lives today. She was the first woman nurse and first woman to earn the order of merit in 1910

75th anniversary of VE Day

April 30, 2020

The 8th May 2020 marks the 75th anniversary of VE day when the guns fell silent at the end of the war in Europe. It will be a different shared moment of celebration that was previously planned; however, the anniversary provides us with an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifice, courage and determination of those involved that helped the nation at this time.

The new Ofsted framework

Oct. 29, 2019

Ofsted have recently released their new Education Inspection Framework (EIF) with several changes that replace the current Common Inspection Framework (CIF). Concerns were raised that the curriculum became second place to performance measures and preparation for tests, meaning many, especially in disadvantaged and SEND schools, were not getting access to a rich, broad and deep curriculum. The new framework includes 4 key judgements; the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development and leadership and management. One thing we know several teachers are worried about is the Ofsted Deep Dive.

How Purple Mash supported Hillside School in teaching

Sept. 13, 2019

Staff were introduced to Purple Mash at Hillside School after being identified by Aberdeenshire Council as a school who would be enthusiastic and keen to welcome a pilot. This was led by Fiona Lindsay and started after the Spring break. Fiona had previously used Purple Mash when it had been available through Glow. Staff were positive about using the resources available to them.
