Transition Pack with Dot Com Digital

June 12, 2023

Transition is both an exciting and challenging time for pupils. As Year 6 children enter their last half term of Primary School, it is a term that is usually full of a range of activities and preparation for Secondary School. During this time, schools often take part in a range of Junior Citizen or Crucial Crew types of lessons, which look to give children the skills to deal with a wide range of situations and enables them to make a valued contribution to their local community through good citizenship.

Free Transition Pack

We have put together a short transition pack using resources from Dot Com Digital that teachers can use over the latter half of the summer term to support children with their PHSE and Junior Citizenship lessons. Dot Com Digital (Free version) is a partnership approach to help safeguard children from emerging threats to their safety and well-being.

There are 7 sessions available for Year 6 Transition in the free version covering the following topics: Grooming, County Lines, Consent, Knife Crime, Drugs, Alcohol and Smoking, Hate Crime and Online Safety.

The following topics are included in this pack:

  • Drugs, Alcohol and Smoking
  • Knife Crime
  • Online Safety

The topics included cover a range of emerging threats and safety situations. The sessions in this pack are a sample of what is available. They contain teacher guidance, resources, aims and success criteria for each session and are perfect to use as part of either transition or PHSE lessons. The pack also provides access to the rest of the online sessions available on the free version of Dot Com Digital. The lessons within the pack have been created with children and safeguarding leads and made in collaboration with and supported by Essex Police, The Metropolitan Police and Staffordshire Police.

Transition Pack

“The threats facing young people from grooming, exploitation and bullying sadly continue. Dot Com Digital provides the ‘helping hand’ to guide young people to make good choices and a resource for those who support them in an imaginative way using the latest technology. It builds the confidence in young minds to recognise the ‘uh ho’ signs and the knowledge and information to guide the people who can support and help them. It really does help build stronger, safer and more resilient young people.”

BJ Harrington, Chief Constable Essex.

Dot Com Digital - the full version

The full version of Dot Com Digital houses over 24 themes, and over 170 lessons, which enables schools to fulfil a rich PSHE curriculum while fulfilling the requirements of the 2020 RSE framework. The programme supports the teaching of ages 5-11 and includes overviews, videos, lesson plans and activities.

The platform includes a Digital Dot Minute that children can use if they're feeling worried or afraid of something. This provides a safe way for children to report worries and allows them to raise issues with the teacher in a confidential way.
