Walk to School Week is one of our favourite weeks here at 2Simple. Starting on 5th October, the week allows us all, pupils and grown-ups across the UK the chance to unite for one week of walking to school. The theme this year is Health and Wellbeing and Living Streets have created a five-day walking challenge that is fun, engaging and raises awareness. With 60 minutes of activity recommended each day, the best way to start is a walk in the morning. Teachers can purchase the Classroom Pack created by Living Streets here.
Here at 2Simple, we have compiled a few resources for schools to raise awareness of Walk to School Week.
If you subscribe to Purple Mash, you can find all of our resources here.
You can get your pupils to create a Walk to School poster to promote why you should walk to school. What are the health benefits? Why does walking improve wellbeing? Test those sentence building skills, by using our ‘Walk Words’ sentence resource. Walk is a bit of a boring word, so let us see how we can make this Walk to School week more exciting with the use of different verbs! You can also use our Leaflet template for Road Safety to instruct others on how to stay safe whilst walking next to busy roads.
We have challenged our 2Simple staff to send us photos of their walks during the day and will be sharing our favourites across social media. Although we don’t walk to school, we are still wanting to highlight the importance of walking in general. Keep an eye out for photos of our walks and send us your own so we can share them!
