National Poetry Day falls on Thursday 6th October with the theme this year being 'The Environment'. Here at 2Simple, we love poetry and the idea that National Poetry Day aims to encourage everyone to experience and share poetry with family and friends. Voices, words and stories help to bridge understanding across communities.
To celebrate the launch of a brand-new version of our online library Serial Mash, we’re holding our first ever National Poetry Day competition, giving you the chance to have your poetry recorded by the amazing Leona Lewis!
The National Poetry Day competition gives schools the opportunity to have their poetry published in Serial Mash.
All you have to do is write a poem based on the theme ‘The Environment’ and share it with us before the closing date. We’ll then feature your poem in our National Poetry Day Anthology, which will be accessible to all Serial Mash and Purple Mash subscribers.
One poem from each category will be randomly selected to be made available as an audio poem, read by the one and only Leona Lewis, brand ambassador of EcoFlix, the world's first global non-profit streaming platform focused on producing its own shows that are dedicated to wildlife conservation. There are three categories that you can enter submissions into:
The competition will be open to all schools and schools can enter up to 3 submissions – either one per category for primary schools or one per age group. Poems should be sent to competitions@2simple.com by 5pm on October 31st.
We will then select one ‘winner’ randomly from each category, the selected poem will win the following:
We have opened our some writing templates that your children might find useful to use. Find the resources on our National Poetry Day blog here.
We look forward to reading all your poetry. Good luck!
We are giving schools the chance to sign up for a 30 day all free access trial to Serial Mash. Serial Mash is your online library for reading and comprehension. Over the past year we have been hard at work on a major update to Serial Mash with the goal of making the online library the best it can be for teachers and children alike.
