World Cities Day is upon us this week and Purple Mash has heaps of wonderful resources and tools to help you explore the theme. Also, remember that you can upload any of your own resources and use the Purple Mash tools to add an activity to your lesson or assess their understanding of the content.

Whatever the ages of your learners, Purple Mash is able to add significantly to the Cities theme. For the younger children we have our Simple City tool. This is a wonderful resource to interactively teach children about all aspects of a community. With Simple City the learners get to design and build their own city. It also teaches them about all aspects of a community from farming to retail.

For the older children we have many resources and writing projects that can be used to learn about cities around the world. Again, if your home city is not in the existing resources remember you can add your own resource and activity. The writing activities include various different formats. Purple Mash has an activity where the learner needs to write about the attractions you can see in Dublin. Children are given pictures of attractions and have to research and write all about them.

There is a lovely activity around Rome. Learners are asked to write a postcard to a friend telling them about their stay in the beautiful city. They are given visual prompts to help them with the activity.

Want to explore New York? Why not get your learners to make up a leaflet telling tourists all about the Big Apple. We would have to include London. Why not explore various aspects of London and then write a review of the city for future visitors.

Whichever city you choose and whatever activity you want your learners to do, there is something for you on the Purple Mash program. If you and your school has not signed up yet, you can sign up HERE or contact US to find out more about what is on offer.
