World Ocean Day 2021

May 19, 2021

On World Ocean Day, 8th June, people around our blue planet will be coming together to celebrate and honour our ocean. The ocean connects us all, between countries and across the world and by working together, we must protect and restore our oceans. The theme this year is The Ocean: Life and Livelihoods.

Humanity has defined itself through its relations with the oceans over time culturally, socially and economically. The ocean has become central to maintaining life and livelihoods in every respect. Nevertheless, we have yet to understand our impacts on this lifesource or to discover its interconnectivity beneath the surface.

To celebrate World Oceans Day on Purple Mash, we have several resources you can use. We have many writing tools that you can use. Why not create a poster about the Great Barrier Reef detailing what animals you can find there? Or use your descriptive writing skills and write about an angry sea!

For the younger learners, you can use 2Paint to paint the animals that you might find living in the sea. Can you draw a fish and even tell us what makes them suited to living in the sea? Or paint your very own sea creature!

We also have a number of Mashcams that you can use to celebrate the ocean! Are you going to be a diver where you can tell us all about the fish you have found on your sea adventure? Or do you want to be a 15th Century Sailor!

Whatever you are doing to celebrate World Ocean Day, we would love to see and share your work. Tweet us @2SimpleAus or @PurpleMash, or go to 2SimpleAustralia on Facebook.
