It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Schools across the country are preparing for the Christmas nativity, searching for the missing wise man, wondering how on earth they are going to get the glitter out of the carpet, hoping that the staff room is full of chocolate treats and working out which Christmas card delivered into the post box needs to get to which child.
But the important thing is not to panic. For all those in-between moments, Purple Mash has a range of stocking fillers and Christmas activities to see you through the weeks ahead. From writing projects to Mash Cams, word searches to quizzes, and everything else you can imagine, there is something to suit every year group over the coming weeks, and it can all be found in the Christmas area of Purple Mash.
One way for Purple Mash subscribers to get festive while teaching vital computer skills to younger children is to use storybook animation tool 2Create a Story. Class teacher Emma Murch and IT Progress Leader Gemma Sills, both from Wicor Primary School, have put together a series of 7 lessons for Key Stage 1 based around the nativity story and covering skills such as typing, adding and manipulating images and storytelling. Here’s Emma to take you through it:
Back by popular demand, the Purple Mash Advent Calendar will be launching once again on the 1st December! From then onwards, head to the Feature Panel on the left-hand side of the Purple Mash home page, and from there you'll find the Advent Activity for the day!
If you'd prefer to create your own, it's 2Simple with Purple Mash. Take a look at this video to see how.
We have a wide range of writing projects that can be used throughout the festive period. Why not get students to design a poster to advertise their upcoming nativity production, write their list to Santa or even send him an email using 2Email.
If you want to link to other curriculum areas, then we have a project and a postcard template looking at the Christmas day Truce in WWI, or you could tell the story of the Christmas journey. There are also a range of poetry projects to choose from – why not try writing a Christmas Poem?
The Christmas creativity can continue with a range of ready-made paint projects for your class to try. Children can create their own wrapping paper, then design their own stockings and add them to their own decorated tree. Children can also get creative and design their perfect Christmas jumper!
Just like presents under the tree or turkey on Boxing Day, there's plenty more to discover in the Christmas area of Purple Mash. You could lose yourself in one of the games and quizzes, print and share a wordsearch or two, or as ever transform yourself into an elf with the classic Mash Cam. Who wouldn't want to be an elf?!
If you're not yet a subscriber, why not try out a selection of what Purple Mash has to offer during the festive season with this FREE Christmas Activity Pack? Inside you'll find links to online activities and games, as well as printable wordsearches, crosswords and colouring sheets!
