#EduFootyAid: North East Soccer & Social

Oct. 17, 2019

October 12th saw the launch of a new type of #EduFootyAid event, the Soccer & Social! The idea is to promote the community building aspect of #EduFootyAid, and so, instead of two regions facing-off, all the players are from the same region. In this instance it was the North East and 16 players took part on the day.

The group split into teams with kits kindly provided by Bee Digital (Reds) and the Literacy Shed (Whites). Ferocious strikes from J.Graham and S.Keyes put the Reds two up within as many minutes, but the Whites battled back hard, eventually going 4-2. Unfortunately, S.Blower picked up a nasty ankle injury leaving the Whites without a sub. With the game being played at very high tempo the Whites began to tire, and the Reds eventually game back to level it at four all.

The game lasted 40 minutes and ended as a draw. There was a short break and then a second match was played. This game was won emphatically by the Reds, ending 6-2. Red's striker V.Turner was a fox in the box, ruthlessly punishing every defensive error and special mention goes to J.Graham who was awarded player of the match for his near perfect performance.

With the soccer over it was time for the social! Festivities began with a drink at the local pub before heading for a delicious Italian meal. We picked October 12th because #EduFootyAid regulars Lee and Adam Parkinson were in town recording their hilarious podcast 'Two Mr P's in a Podcast'. We went along to show our support and it was a brilliant evening.

The first Soccer and Social event was a great success and we look forward to organising more in the future. Thank you to all the players who took part and sponsors who made it possible.
