An information guide to The PE and Sport Premium and how Striver supports schools to improve in the 5 key areas as outlined by the DfE

The Sport Premium was first introduced to improve the provision of physical education and school sport across primary schools in England. The money is allocated directly to schools and is ringfenced meaning that it can only be spent on improving the provision of sport and PE in schools. Schools receive the second half of the funding for this year on April 29th 2022. All funding from this year must be spent in full by the end of the 2021 to 2022 academic year. This includes any carried forward under-spent funding that has resulted from the relaxations to the ring-fencing arrangements of the PE and sport premium because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of the physical education (PE), physical activity and sport for the benefit of all primary-aged pupils to encourage the development of healthy, active lifestyles. You should use the PE and sport premium to secure improvements in the following 5 key areas that the DfE recommends:

1. Engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity
2. Profile of PE and sport is raised across the school as a tool for whole-school improvement
3. Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
4. Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
5. Increased participation in competitive sport
